SIFTMedia held a Free Virtual Workshop on Sept 20, 2023 called “How to Support Hot Labor Summer SAG-AFTRA/WGA Strike and Learn How to Continue to Work with Union Talent During the Strike” Or Why the Existential threat of corporate greed and A. I. needs to be stopped so folks can earn a decent living and continue to make great Film Art.
The Speaker was Ramon Jackson, Senior Business Rep with the Philly Local of SAG-AFTRA. He provided clear information on what is excluded from the Strike; More details on the necessity of the Strike; How completely Independent Productions can get an Interim Agreement (Not a Waiver!).
Talked of projects which fall under Microbudget/Student/ SPA (Short Project Agreement) which get assigned a local Signatory Rep. It’s supposedly a very user friendly process, but be prepared to provide your script, company structure documents, state filing receipts and budget.
The hour long workshop is broken down into 20 min highlights, but SAG/AFTRA Philly Chapter is ready and willing to answer your questions, so Filmmakers/MediaMakers reach out!

And we will also let you know how you can directly help Actors and Writers in this push to change the game so everyday workers can earn a living wage.
