Filmmaker and Visual Artist jasmine lynea will share personal stories, memories, perspectives, and creative process during an intimate talk and screening of their award-winning sci-fi fantasy short film, The Love Machine.
This event features artist Jasmine Lynea — an artist whose work explores the fluid spaces between truth and myth. A Temple University alum, Jasmine crafts vibrant, boundary-pushing stories that bring unconventional ideas to the forefront. As a 2022 BlackStar Filmmaker Lab fellow, Jasmine wrote and directed the fantasy sci-fi short The Love Machine, which premiered at BlackStar Film Festival and has since captivated audiences at festivals and art exhibitions. In 2023, Jasmine’s work earned them fellowships and grants from Mural Arts, Velocity Fund, and Flaherty’s Queer-World Mending program. Supported by People’s Media Fund and Scribe Video Center, Jasmine is continuing their art practice, exploring painting and performance.
Through family photos, music, storytelling, and music videos, Jasmine will deeply look into personal stories and memories that held them back from self-love–questioning and considering—sharing all of what inspired them to write The Love Machine.

PHOTOS/VIDEO from Jasmine’s Talk at Moore College of Art:

Jasmine presented a raw and insightful look into her upbringing and how certain experiences from her childhood informed the foundation for her scifi short THE LOVE MACHINE – After successfully building a time machine that uses love to help heal and replace harmful childhood memories, a teenage scientist/influencer puts his new invention to the test to challenge intergenerational trauma.
“The Love Machine” originally premiered as part of Blackstar Film Festival’s Inaugural Filmmakers Lab.
Lynea’s next film DELLA CAN FLY is in post-production. This evening was in part a fundraiser to support film festival entry and travel fees.

Check out Video excerpts of Jasmine’s Love + Time Talk/Presentation and Post Screening Interview moderated by Tafari Diop at Moore College of Art 2/26/25.
