Herstory in the Making

Vice President Kamala Devi Harris is making history as the first Woman to lead the American political system. A woman of both African American and South Asian American ancestry. A woman educated at Howard an HBCU- Historically Black College/University.

We at SIFT are inspired by her success and perseverance. She eats “No” for breakfast. This is the spirit independent filmmakers live by to get work made and seen.

In that same vane, here’s where you can get a glimpse of our awesome members past and present achievements:

We held a Private Screening for SIFT's collective film project COVID1619 for the filmmakers, cast/crew, SIFTers and special invited guests. As part of our continuing personal and professional development workshops, we welcomed Renaissance Woman Alexis Thompson @extramalexis  to teach a basic woodworking and tool handling class for set & home use.  She did a fantastic job with our little work crew, we each got to build a flat and everyone left feeling more confident with the items in a tool box and use of power tools! We are excited to have Actor/Producer/Writer/Fundraiser DATE: Saturday, May 6, 2023 POST UPDATE 4.19.23: WORKSHOP IS POSTPONED DUE TO INSTRUCTOR'S FAMILY EMERGENCY SIFTer Sophie Heng, Director of Creative Economy Initiatives, Office of Business Development and Workforce Solutions, was a major part of the team which brought about The Department of Commerce Creative Economy Arts in Education Event which took place Friday, March 31, 2023 from 9am -2pm at Rivers Casino, Philadelphia.  SIFTer @sophieheng w/ @PHLCommerce is Calling all #Philly CREATIVES! The goal of this event is to celebrate #artists & amplify a forum of discussion with City leaders - Register ERICA HAWKINS @bgf_erica has been awarded a grant by #BlackMusicCity to produce/direct a short doc on the history of The Famous Davis Sisters of Philadelphia, entitled “12 Gates to the City.” SIFT Media 215 held our annual New Members Meeting in February 2023 and have accepted 4 talents to SIFTerhood! We're excited to welcome Writer/Producer/Director ANNETTE BURGESS @netiebee
